Purpose
This report provides information on the college enrollment and the employment outcomes for Texas public high school graduates during the fall semester following high school graduation. It shows the number of high school graduates enrolled in Texas public colleges and/or employed within the state of Texas.
This report includes the top 10 Texas public colleges ranked by the number of students enrolled and the top 10 industries of employment ranked by the number of students employed. It also provides information concerning the median fourth quarter wage for employed high school graduates.
Data in this report are reported at the statewide level.
Data Source
Data in this report come from the Texas Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS), the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). College enrollment data represent only Texas public colleges and universities, and do not include out-of-state or Texas private institutions of higher education.

Employment and quarterly earnings data are from the TWC and include only Texas employment data as reported to the TWC. Employment industry sectors are classified using the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

Data Elements
Enrolled in College:
Texas high school graduates who enrolled in a Texas public college or university the fall semester following high school graduation as reported by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
- All Enrolled in College - All Texas high school graduates enrolled in a Texas public college or university the fall semester following high school graduation as reported by THECB.
- Enrolled in College Only - Texas high school graduates enrolled in a Texas public college or university the fall semester following high school graduation as reported by THECB who did not have fourth quarter wages following high school graduation as reported by TWC.
Employed:
Texas high school graduates who have fourth quarter wages following high school graduation as reported by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). (For example, if a student graduated from high school in May 2010, the fourth quarter wages reported would include any wages earned in October, November, and December of 2010 and reported to the TWC.)
- All Employed - All Texas high school graduates who have fourth quarter wages following high school graduation as reported by TWC.
- Employed Only - Texas high school graduates who have fourth quarter wages following high school graduation as reported by TWC who are not found as enrolled in college as reported by the THECB.
- Employed and Enrolled - Texas high school graduates who have fourth quarter wages following high school graduation as reported by TWC who are also found as enrolled in college as reported by the THECB.
Industry Employment Sector:
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy. NAICS industries are identified by a 6-digit code. In this report, the 6-digit code is rolled up to the standardized 2-digit code representing 21 broad industry sectors, including an ‘Unknown’ category.

Median Wages:
Median wages paid during the fourth quarter following high school graduation as reported to TWC.
Not Located:
Texas public high school graduates not found either as college enrolled (in a Texas public college or university in the fall semester following high school graduation) or employed (not found in the 4th quarter of Texas employment data as reported by the Texas Workforce Commission).
